EAPC 001 (ESLP 001) Clarity and Accuracy in Writing for Multilingual Speakers 1 Credit

EAPC 001 is meant for multilingual English speakers who want to improve their basic writing skills. Specifically, the course provides instruction in understanding and using advanced English sentence structures in writing. Students will develop their advanced academic vocabulary and grammar to improve writing sophistication and accuracy.

EAPC 002 Advanced Academic Writing and Reading for Research 1 Credit

EAPC 002 is for any student who wants to strengthen their advanced writing skills for their class assignments and professional writing tasks such as research, theses/dissertations, and/or eventual publication. The course provides instruction in reading, writing, and research, particularly suitable for graduate students. Focus is on academic honesty, the writing process, and examination of the structure of academic genres (e.g., journal articles, dissertations) in the students’ fields of study and guided practice in authoring academic texts for publication.

EAPC 003 Intelligibility and Comprehensibility for Multilingual Speakers 1 Credit

EAPC 003 is meant specifically for multilingual English speakers who want to improve their basic pronunciation skills to help others understand their speech. The course focuses on conversational English with some attention to formal presentation skills, colloquial language and idioms, accent management, and practice in basic listening skills for an academic setting.

EAPC 004 Advanced Academic & Professional Speaking 1 Credit

EAPC 004 is meant for any student who wants to strengthen their advanced speaking skills for the classroom and for professional contexts,such as thesis/dissertation defenses and/or professional job talks. Focus is on correct use of grammatical structures in oral English and practice in accurate pronunciation. Students will explore the functions of American English in academic and professional settings.

EAPC 011 Technical Writing for the STEM Fields 1 Credit

EAPC 011 is meant for any student who wants to improve their formal technical writing skills in communicating concepts and processes in STEM-related fields. The course focuses on general technical vocabulary, technical sentence structure and style, and research skills for the advanced student.

EAPC 012 Oral Communication for Teaching Assistants 1 Credit

The course focuses on the development of advanced speaking skills and presentation techniques for the purposes of teaching an undergraduate class and communicating with students through office hours. The course involves a study of formal spoken rhetoric, accent management, and interactive speaking and presentation skills for the purpose of conveying subject-matter content and classroom instructions within the context of teaching/learning in a university setting.
